Climate Change Skepticism

This project tests whether public proclamations of doubt in the independence of media (e.g. labeling news outlets as “fake news” by Donald Trump) impact subjective trust in news- and scientific articles on climate change. In another part of this project I analyse online news texts opposing or supporting the concept of man-made climate change by means of quantitative text analysis. More precisely, I use lexicometrics, i.e. frequency analysis, key term extraction, co-occurences, as well as machine learning tools to predict the skepticism towards climate change with text characteristics. Additionally, I test whether pro- or contra climate change texts differ with respect to the sentiment embodied in the words they use.
